What happens when you visit
This website sets no cookies, loads no tracking scripts and uses no third-party analytics. Fonts, the map library and map outlines are served from our own server, so your browser makes no requests to other providers while you read.
Requests pass through Cloudflare as a reverse proxy, which processes IP addresses under its privacy policy. The server is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany (privacy policy). Our application does not store real IP addresses in its logs.
Page counts
To see which pages are read, the server itself counts page views, without cookies, without a script in your browser and without passing anything on. The database holds only daily counters: views per page, an approximate number of visitors per day and the domain of the referring site (never the full address).
For the approximate visitor count, a short code is derived from IP address and browser identifier with a key that changes daily. It exists only in memory, is never written to disk and cannot be linked to you the next day. IP address and browser identifier themselves are not stored. With “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” set, nothing is counted. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in secure, needs-based operation (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).
Content we collect
We collect only publicly available content: data sets, reports, parliamentary documents, news feeds and public channels of media, organisations and parties to the conflicts. We do not collect private messages, comments by private individuals or non-public content.
Use of artificial intelligence
In line with Art. 50 of the EU AI Act, we point out that parts of this website are generated with AI systems:
- Daily briefs are written automatically by Anthropic Claude from public sources and labelled as AI-generated.
- English versions of the briefs are machine translations by the same model.
- Relevance checks on incoming posts are automated. No decisions about people are made.
AI-generated texts do not express an editorial opinion and do not replace editorial review.
Access via Tor
The site can also be reached as an onion service through the Tor network. No IP addresses are recorded for visits via Tor.
Contacting us (Signal, email)
If you write to us via Signal or email, we process your message and the data transmitted with it (such as username, email address, time) only to handle your request (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). We do not pass it on unless legally obliged to. Signal messages are end-to-end encrypted; Signal Messenger LLC (USA) operates the service. We delete messages once they are no longer needed.
